Welcome to Gilead Township

Gilead Township is one of sixteen townships in Morrow County, Ohio, with a population of 5,942 according to the 2020 Census.  Located in the heart of Morrow County with the villages of Mount Gilead (the county seat) and Edison lie within its borders with a total of 7 surrounding townships:

 

- Washington Township (to the north)

- Congress Township (to the northwest)

- Franklin Township (to the east)

- Harmony Township (to the southeast)

- Lincoln Township (to the south)

- Cardington Township (to the southwest)

- Canaan Township (to the northwest)

The township includes parts of the Mt. Gilead, Normor, and Cardington-Lincoln school districts, and is home to Mount Gilead Exempted Village Schools for PreK-12th grade education. 

Public services in Gilead Township include fire protection through the Mt. Gilead Fire Department, local zoning under county oversight, and access to county-level services such as recycling, health department support, senior services, veterans services, transit, emergency management and libraries.

The township is governed by a three-member Board of Trustees, each serving four-year terms.  Trustees are elected in November on off-numbered years, with two elected in the year after a presidential election and one elected in the year before.  In addition, there is an elected fiscal officer whose four-year term begins on April 1 following the November election held in the year before the presidential election.
